6:00 a.m., monday, december 28 here's what's happening. >> a knife attack in trenton sends several people to the hospital overnight. we have the details. >> you might have heard hover boards are hot, in some cases that's what brought out firefighters in south jersey. >> it's colder, accuweather is on the look out for the first winter weather of the season in parts of the area. karen rogers is off, david murphy is here no longer in his suit coat is bundled up on the
terrace. matt pellman has traffic. >> reporter: take a look at satellite, we have rain last night. that pushed off to the south and starting point to fall apart. the reason it went south is because we have a cold front front pushing through the region it is ushering when colder air. we are in the upper 30s in allentown, trenton and 43 in millville. winds in the teens, so it's cool. 40 degrees by 9:00 a.m. the numbers don't go that far. 43 by 3:00 p.m., mainly cloudy skies and later in the evening we're on the look out of rain arriving. in berks county, the lehigh valley and the poconos it will begin as freezing rain sleet and snow. looks like it will be light, probably less than an inch accumulation. if you're driving tonight and overnight in these areas and points north for that matter. look out because slippery roads
conditions are likely. when i step inside we'll track the arrival and departure of the precipitation. matt, what about roads early? >> reporter: sort of a blurry bouncing start on the penndot camera in northeast philadelphia. they zoomed in on a broken down vehicle, this is the cottman ramp to i-95 southbound. overall we expect volume to be down this week, we don't expect the same sorts of crowds, but you will see delays and you will see the delays form on i-95 southbound. on the vine street expressway coming away from i-95 heading toward the schuylkill expressway starting to tap the brakes heading to 30th street station. everything is reopened after the overnight construction, crews return tonight and close the vine between 76 and broad. they are doing that a couple of nights this week before the new year's holiday. no problems on 76 the boulevard.
broken down vehicle rising sun has cleared out of the way. there's a crash at louis road at ridge pike by the dollar tree. no issues so far eastbound on 42 away from pottstown. 42 in south jersey, maybe a little bit northbound volume, but overall looking good as we kick things off on this monday morning. tam. >> thank you matt. we have a story out of new jersey, police say several people were stabbed in trenton overnight. the stabbings happening on the 400 block of west hanover street. four people in the end were injured. one is in critical, but stable condition. the injuries for the other three victims were not as serious. police have one person in custody, it is not clear exactly what triggered this event. and also new this morning, a lot of people wanted a hover board from santa, fire concerns have people wondering the return policy at the north pole.
annie mccormick is live at the satellite center and with the latest that brought out the fire department. >> reporter: there's been 167 different hover board fires in 12 different states. that has the federal government investigate the hover boards. major retailers are no longer carrying them. now there's an investigation in our area, after lacey township new jersey a report of a hover board explosion. take a look at the picture. these are pictures of the explosion that was left behind to the hover board and the damage to the house inside. the fire company responded to lacey township ocean county. the call came out as an unknown explosion at the home. the popular gift is causing a lot of concern enough to prompt an investigation by the u.s. product safety commission. they are calling this a priority investigation because many received hover boards as gifts over the holidays.
in the course of the investigation they have found that certain models burst into flames saturday of malfunctioning batteries and plugs. in the ocean county case there were no injuries, the fire marshal is investigating. reporting live from the satellite center annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> thanks. a monster storm system from new mexico to michigan and georgia continues to march our way bringing a mixed bag of severe weather. the national weather service confirmed three tshedz -- tornados ripped through the dallas area on saturday. 11 people were killed and hundreds of buildings damage. they are now bracing for snow. the severe weather in other parts of the country created problems here, people trying to get home after the long holiday weekend. delays and cancellations peppered the departure board at philadelphia international airport.
some remain this morning. snow in el paso texas delayed this family's flight by 2 1/2 hours. they learned that septa suspended service due to power problems. >> now i have to find another way home. >> reporter: therein no problems or delays for -- there were no delays or problems for those taking amtrak. >> wilmington police are looking into a double shooting that has one victim struggling for his life. gunfire erupted on the 2600 block of east 23rd street. another victim was found four blocks away shot in the arm. he is expected to survive. they are looking for the motive and the shooter. stacy dellcatt is in for maribel a about themmer and has the -- abers and has the market

>> some people in your house saw it multiple times. >> reporter: storm tracker 6 live double scan shows us a lack of precipitation. stepping outside take a look we have cloudy skies overhead, but wind blowing and temperatures are cooler this morning after the passage of a cold front to the south. 42 degrees in philadelphia. we have slipped into the upper 30s in wilmington, as well and we've been sitting there for the last several hours in trenton, allentown and reading. 42 in millville and mid 40s in cape may and other shorepoints. there goes the rain to the south as the cold front came in from the north and it's evaporating to the south cooler air and a fair amount of clouds. we might get a sunny break, but overall it's a cloudy skies. in the lehigh valley, winds and chilly, 43 degrees. down the shore, 48 degrees winds and chill lots of clouds in play at the shore today. in philadelphia, we'll go for a high of 44 degrees, much closer
to average, technically a couple of degrees above average for this date, much closer than where we've been in the last several weeks. yesterday we hit a record high of 65. no such luck today. it will be a chilly one with winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour. we'll be down to 39 by 8:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m., 43. the high of 44 degrees around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon before settling back into the low 40s by 5:00 p.m. in terms of precip we're okay, but we have clouds, but basically dry. in the evening we'll be on the look out for showers to build in. this is the midnight view. anything popping up around allentown and reading is highlighted in blue. that's light mixed precipitation, might be sleet or freezing rain and light snow possible. by 3:00 a.m. that's filling in
and probably a little more pronounced. if you have plans to drive late tonight and overnight in the lehigh valley berks county or the poconos you're probably going to encounter slippery road conditions. warm air coming back from the south will change everything over to rain in allentown and berks county. poconos hanging on to the frozen precipitation. in terms of volume of precip doesn't look like much. any icy accumulation is under a quarter of an inch. any snow under an inch. light presuch sayings but enough to give you -- light precipitation, but enough to give you trouble. in the morning it's rain, by 1:00 p.m. everybody is dry outside the shore. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, cloudy, chilly, rain and wintry mix arriving tonight. tomorrow all rain tapering off in the morning hours and we'll have sun come back a nicer high of 60 and 57 on wednesday with

>> reporter: let's look at satellite and radar. you can see rain that came through has pushed to the south of us because of a cold front. we have cooler air in place. there's a little break in the clouds, i can't rule out a sunny break, but overall looks like the clouds wins the day as does the chilly air. upper 30s in wilmington and up the road in trenton mid 40s in sea isle city. 39 degrees by 8:00 a.m. noon, 42. cloud cover the dominant feature above, 3:00 p.m., a high of 44. other thick about today it's already a little bit breezy. as we go through the majority of the day, for a chilly winds. there's a wintry weather advisory that kicks in tonight and extends until 7:00 a.m. tuesday morning. it's in berks county, the lehigh
valley, points north to the poconos. we expect sleet rain and snow to arrive later in the period. if you have plans to drive in the area overnight take the slow, because roads will be slippery. this will change back to rain in allentown and reading at some point tomorrow morning. i'll track that in future tracker 6 coming up. matt pellman what are the roads looking like? >> reporter: as we head back to work after the christmas holidays, we have an new overturned vehicle accidents pennsylvania turnpike, i-476 about a mile south of the least interchange. the right lane is blocked. as you come south of allentown expect slowing as everyone is funneled in the left lane around the overturned vehicle accident. northeast southbound new accident with new delays. traveling westbound on 422 out
toward pottstown watch out for a wreck between royersford and limerick exits. there's an accident on the boulevard, southbound direction at harbison avenue in the inner drive blocking a lane, you can see the yellow dots there it's causing slowing. i-95 off ramp at cottman, disabled vehicle off to the side. slowing traveling toward girard. a little bit of slowing, but not horrendous. zipping along eastbound into center city on the schuylkill expressway past montgomery drive, no delays on this monday morning. >> new this morning, one person was assaulted while police say they were in the middle of an attempted theft in philadelphia. investigators say the victim was hit in the head near wagner way in cheltenham. they believe the assault happened while the suspect was trying to steal wheels off the
vehicle. the victim is in stable condition. we're at the big board now showing the extreme weather swinging through the heartland and some of it will impact us later tonight. deadly tornados in north texas will have neighborhoods looking like landfills. one day later and not too far away in the same state, authorities had to close texas highway due to freezing conditions and snow. the national weather service confirmed 9 tornados touched down on saturday. the twisters tore through a 40-mile section of the dallas area. 11 people were killed. >> it seemed like 20 seconds it lasted and then it got real quiet i stepped out and saw this. at that point trying to figure out how i was going to get out of the house. >> flash flooding was reported in several states farther east. there are 13 related deaths in
illinois. david murphy will tell us what the storms will bring to our region this week. >> new this morning, a new jersey family learned the dangers of a hover board first handle after it brought firefighters out to the house. annie mccormick has the latest. there are concerns for many who got them under the tree. >> reporter: this is not the first report of a hover board explosion. authorities are urging people to check the warranties and recalls. these are the pictures of the damage that was left behind in the home. also the hover board what's left of it, this is happened after the fire company responded to the fire in lacey township, ocean county sunday. the call came out as an unknown explosion at a home. it appears it caught fire while charging. the popular holiday gift is causing concern enough to prompt an investigation by the federal government after 16 hover board fires happened in 12 states.

philadelphia where police say a car struck and killed a pedestrian about an hour ago. this happened along the boulevard harbison avenue in northeast philadelphia. the vehicle remained at the scene, so police will be talking to that person, the person who was struck and killed was pronounced at the scene. we have traffic issues along the boulevard at this location. we'll turn to matt pellman for a look at that in traffic in just a little bit. >> let's turn to david murphy to talk about accuweather, good morning. >> reporter: we are off to a chilly start, cloudy conditions and winds, as well. storm tracker 6 live double scan we have a more seasonable change underway. no precipitation, the clouds are in place and there's a breeze blowing and every now and then the camera bounces a little bit indicating that for you. we had a record high of 65. get your coats today it's much different. we have a number of suburbs in
the upper 30s and the winds out of the north at 12 miles per hour. we have seen the winds in the middle teens at times and the windchills are making it feel like the 0s in the places -- 30s in the places where you are in the 40s. we had rain sweeping to the south now falling apart because a cold front pushed through. behind it we have chillier conditions. a lot of cloud cover. i see a break in central pennsylvania. it's possible we see a sunny break here and there, generally speaking the clouds win the day. 39 degrees by 8:00. 42 by 11. the high is 43 degrees by 3:00 p.m. the numbers not going very far. mainly cloudy skies and windy and chilly. 43 in allen allentown. not much different in trenton or millville. upper 40s down the shore, chilly and mainly cloudy. 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., we are dry, but at 7:00 p.m. we introduce a wintery weather
advisory in the northern areas. watch what happens apt midnight. we have spotty showers developing, but around allentown and reading there are blue patches that begin to develop. that fills in did you or didn't you overnight hours. that blue is a mix of freezing rain, the most dangerous type of precipitation, sleet and snow, not much accumulation. if you have plans to dry in the northern areas be careful because the roads will be slippery. tomorrow warm air returns from the south and we change everything over to rain before the bulk of the rush hour tomorrow. in terms of ice, not a whole lot happening with any icing. looks like accumulation is probably under a quarter inch in northern bucks, montgomery and the lehigh valley. if we see snow it will be less than an inch probably a half inch. tomorrow we're changing over to rain and all that gets washed away. the rain itself is over by the coast and falling apart by the

the boulevard, the lanes remain closed. police on the scene. no traffic getting by in any of the 6 lanes southbound at harbison, you can see the inner and outer drives are blocked. all the traffic is being detoured off on the side streets away from the southbound side of the boulevard. as chopper pans back you can see the headlights stacked up trying to come southbound on the boulevard down toward broad street and the schuylkill expressway. nobody is getting through whatever whatsoever. as we pull in the big picture, use caster avenue or bustleton or frankford, but the southbound lanes of route 1, the boulevard not where you want to find yourself this morning. once you make it to the schuylkill expressway you're okay. speeds in the 50s. disney on ice each day this weekend, 11, 3:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. you'll see extra people heading to the wells fargo center.
